A Candle Inspired by Memory and Music

For me, Jazz After Hours isn’t just a candle—it’s a memory, bottled in wax and flame. It takes me back to afternoons after school, when my Nana would be waiting at our home. The needle would drop on her beloved vinyl, often Frank Sinatra’s “Summer Wind” spinning through the speakers, and suddenly the room transformed.

What I didn’t realize then was that she was giving me more than music. She was sharing her story.

The Woman Who Inspired Jazz After Hours

My Nana came through Ellis Island from Italy as a young girl, eventually growing up in government housing with her parents and two sisters. She lived through a world war, through the heartbreak of her husband leaving to enlist in the Navy, and through the lean years of the Depression.

Yet when she put on a record, her strength shone as brightly as the gold necklace she always wore. Her hair was never out of place. A brooch—her favorite was a gold flower adorned with a pearl in the center—glimmered on her shoulder. She carried herself with elegance, and even in hardship, there was beauty.

Those afternoons were her gift to me. The music told stories she sometimes couldn’t put into words: perseverance, resilience, and love. Sunday dinners became an extension of that—our family gathered, Sinatra in the background, her laughter punctuating the air. To me, those moments were the definition of glamour, not because of glitz, but because of presence.

Designing the Jazz After Hours Candle

When we began designing Jazz After Hours, I wanted every detail to honor her.

• The Vessel: A deep wine red, the exact shade of her lipstick—a bold signature she wore with confidence.

• The Label: A spirited, 70s-inspired geometric pattern of ovals and dots shifting in rhythm like a vinyl groove spinning after dark. The design nods to the long strand of pearls she loved to layer with her gold necklace, each one catching the light as she moved with effortless grace.

• The Mood: Just like the music that lingers in after-hours jazz clubs, the look feels timeless—elegant, hypnotic, and alive with memory.

The Fragrance Story: Jasmine + Neroli

The fragrance tells the rest of her story. Jasmine, soft and romantic, represents her warmth. Neroli, fresh and resilient, captures her strength.

Together, they create a velvety, moody scent—like stepping into a late-night jazz club, or back into the living room where the music always played and love was always present.

For me, Jazz After Hours is more than a candle. It’s nostalgia, it’s family, it’s the act of sharing love across generations. It’s a reminder that the human spirit endures through memory, music, and the small rituals that keep us connected.

Every time I light it, I feel like I’m back there—sitting beside her, listening to Sinatra, and carrying her strength forward.
